This installation for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines connects people on different locations in real-time and projects them back onto a transparent hologram fabric. On both sides of this connection the faces of the visitors are tracked. This tracking data is wirelessly sent across the world and these movements determine the projected angle of the hologram. Creating a 3D feeling. To emphasise this effect even more the direction of the lighting is guided by this same tracking data.
Using a live connection, customers could chat with a hologram of their counterparts, looking each other straight in the eye. There is no better way to get the best local travel tips. But even more interesting, there is no better way to share real cultural insights. With the help of the Take-Off Tips bar, customers can talk to each other at airports in Amsterdam, Oslo, and Rio de Janeiro – strangers who would otherwise never have met.
The hologram bar connected people in real time by projecting them into the airport on the other side of the world. To reach a wider audience with KLM’s Take-Off Tips bar, we filmed the conversations of travellers heading in opposite directions and created a short film of the warmest moments.
My role for this project was as a creative lead and art director. I designed the installation and worked closely with the builders to fabricate the different hologram bars across the 3 countries.
On site i was present in the main filming location of Schiphol airport to build the installation and guide the film shoot.
For the main edit I made the titles and made all the online versions of the films.
