For Sol Beers we created this sun tracking installation shown here at the Solstice festival in Iceland.
The Sol Solar Mix Table is an installation that transforms the Sun into a DJ.
The horn-shaped Sun Collector contains an array of sensors which measure solar and weather data like light intensity, infrared, UV, temperature and colour.
The installation tracks the movement of the sun and rotates accordingly so the sensor array is always lined up with the position of the sun.
All this data is conditioned in a custom piece of software that imports a Spotify playlist and organises the tracks in different categories. These categories link to specific weather conditions. When a certain condition is met, tracks from the corresponding categories will be picked next in the playlist. This way the sun dictates the playlist.
The Mix Table interface shows all collected data, how this data is conditioned and finally how this translates to a specific track being played. The Mix Table connects to external audio playback like speakers and features a wireless output for headphones.
My Role as a creative lead was to design and create the installation.
I worked on the visual and user flow/interface and made all the building plans. I was also responsible for leading the building team. On site i was also responsible for the build-up and maintenance.
